Is Your Phone eSIM Compatible? A Complete Guide for 2026
The Shift Away from Plastic
Starting with the iPhone 14 in the United States, Apple completely removed the physical SIM tray, making eSIM the only option. Other manufacturers are following suit. But if you have an older or non-US phone, how do you know if it supports eSIM?
Apple iPhones
If you have an iPhone released in 2018 or later, you are good to go. This includes:
- iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max
- iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 series
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd Gen)
Samsung Galaxy Devices
Samsung adopted eSIM slightly later, but most modern flagships support it:
- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 series
- Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series
- Note 20 series
Note: Some regional variations of Samsung phones (especially FE models or devices sold in certain Asian markets) may lack eSIM support.
Google Pixel
Google has been an early adopter. Any Pixel from the Pixel 3 and newer supports eSIM.
How to Check Your Device Manually
On iOS: Go to Settings > Cellular. If you see "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan", your device is supported.
On Android: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs. If you see an option to "Download a SIM instead", you have eSIM capabilities.
